An inexpensive but very effective method to train is to set up a full size cardboard panel. With chairs in position of pilots, use the attached checklist to simulate flights from one gate at a major airport to the gate at another major airport. Do everything required to perform the flight using IFR charts, clearances, and aircraft checklists while an experienced pilot or instructor moderates it.

Set up a computer in the center of the panel to be used for internet based flight tracking programs to give realism to the progress of the flight. Also use the computer to observe weather as weather radar would be used.

Set up some device such as used radios to dial in frequency changes.
Upgrading
The objective is to put everything in its proper order of operation. This will help you learn required steps in their proper order (very little cost.)

The supplied checklist is designed to "fill in the gaps" between items on the aircraft checklist.

AOC >>in the margin of the checklist means to go to the specific aircraft checklist and call it out. Then, return to the procedures checklist to get things in their proper order.

The whole thing is too cumbersome to use in an airplane but, you will find that much will be remembered and the real flight will be easier.

If you were auditioning for a Broadway Play and showed up not knowing your lines, how far do you think you would get? The same applies to an airline interview.
